More caffeine fuled rantings of a modern lunatic
Mood:  caffeinated
Topic: Politics
What happened to our good old country?
What has the USA turned into?
What happened to the concept of "Personal Responsibility"?

Tobacco companies can be sued for proper use of their product?
Gun manufacturers can be sued for misuse of their product?
Fast food restaurants can be sued by people who ignore warnings CONTENTS MAY BE EXTREMELY HOT.

Why do we (as a country) seem to feel as though we must be compensated any time anything goes wrong in our life? Shit happens!! If my dog get struck by a meteor, there's not much anyone can do about it. If you walk down to the corner drug store and buy a great big bag of Rat Poison, then you go home and proceed to eat it on top of your cheerios, what makes you think your family should have the right to sue the makers of the poison you used?? If I go down to the local pawn shop and pick up a used Smith and Wesson to splatter my brains on the wall, there's nobody to blame but me.. I wouldn't expect my family to get compensated by the people who made the gun. If I jump out the window, I sure as hell don't think they're going to get anything out of the people who made the sidewalk!!

We need a serious reality check.

free credit reports for all!! (eventually)
Topic: Cool Stuff
I came across a website a while back where you will be able to get one free credit report per year from each of the 3 credit agencies.
https://www.annualcreditreport.com/

The only catch is that they spread out the time when people can pull them. The west coast has been able to pull credit reports since December. The upper midwest gets to start using the service in March, southern states in June, and the east coast in September.

I didn't bother to make it a link because it will just give this message: "For security purposes, www.AnnualCreditReport.com can be accessed by typing the web address "www.annualcreditreport.com", or from links from the Federal Trade Commission (www.ftc.gov), Equifax (www.equifax.com), Experian (www.experian.com) and TransUnion (www.transunion.com) websites.
AnnualCreditReport.com is the only web source authorized by all three nationwide consumer credit reporting companies from which free annual credit file disclosures can be requested."
But if you copy the URL into your browser then you will get to the site.

ok, so I got a wild hair up my ass..
Topic: Politics
I was feeling pissy today, so I sent this message to President@whitehouse.gov:
------------------------
Mr. President

You claimed that you had significant evidence of weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. I now demand that you make public your supposed evidence. Saddam never flew any planes into our buildings. Saddam never used any car bombs against us. Saddam never really hurt us in any way outside his own borders, so why did you de-throne him when you were hot on the tail of the man who DID fly planes into our buildings and used car bombs against us?

In our legal system you need to show proof before you can take action. I could go to the FBI and claim that I have significant evidence that you are a child molester and should be locked up, but my evidence would have to be absolute for you to be arrested (and I would have to show my evidence in court). You have done no such thing.

Therefore, I demand that you make public every piece of evidence used in the decision to invade Iraq.
It is a matter of national security that you be open and honest with the American people now that we have officially given up on finding WMD in Iraq.
---------------------------

I got an automated response, so I'm sure nothing will come of it, but if I disappear in the next couple of months then this could be the reason.

more cool stuff

Well, I just got a basic website up and running at http://joker.guhost.com

It's a good community of people, the admin actually participates in the discussions almost daily, and the web hosting you get is great.. 500Mb storage, PHP, Mysql AND postgres databases, up to 5 subdomains (currently I'm playing around with making a 4 card poker game at http://poker.joker.guhost.com/)

So if you're in need of a website that can actually do something, go check out http://www.namek.co.uk/
(Be forewarned, you need to establish a presense in the Namek community with about 20 or so posts before the admin will even look at your application for free hosting.)

How come we re-elected an idiot?
Topic: Politics
There were never any WMD

So the conclusion is finally reached: There were no weapons of mass destruction in Iraq. Saddam was never any real threat to the US. So why are we there? Because George wanted Saddam out. Bush didn't care that Saddam had nothing to do with 9/11, he just wanted to say there was a connection in order to justify going. Bush kept yelling, "Saddam must disarm or we will disarm him".. Telling an unarmed man to disarm, and beating him when he "fails to comply", would not be justified in the US.. but aparently it's ok to do if you're the president.

Now I want to see Bush's "compelling evidence". I want to know what bush had that he says justifies all of this. Now that it's been proven that his "compelling evidence" was wrong, I want to know what he had so I know wether or not I should move to impeach his ass. The republicans tried to impeach Clinton for getting a blowjob, but aparently they think wrongly invading a country isn't such a big deal.

fuck that.

Hmm.. Atkins..
Ever calculated a body mass index before? 5'7" and 240 lbs is considered "Morbidly Obese".. What I don't get is that this measure of obesity doesn't figure in how much muscle is on the body.. Is muscle bulk a factor in obesity?

Anyhow.. I guess I'm going to try to get back down to "overweight".. Atkins will be my weight loss method of choice.. call it a new years resolution if you must.. I'd just like to see how much I can shed before my birthday in March..

Life, the Universe, and Everything
Wow.. Here we are.. January 1, 2005..

Who would have thought that billions of years of evolution would have come to this date.. arbitrarily counted from the death of one man in a book..

I have to wonder.. If that first single celled organism had known what it was about to do, would it have still split? Maybe that was where god came into the equation.. Maybe god started everything that day.. "Hey, I'm lonely.. maybe I'll spli.. Who are you?"
"Wow, You're boring.." "Yeah, so are you.." "I'm just going to go over here and make more of myself.." "Who the hell are you?" "I don't like how you're looking at me with that.. that.. what'd you call it.. that EYE of yours!! That's it.. I've had it with you.. I'm gonna evolve.. um.. TEETH!! *chomp* yeah.."

Now look where it's gotten us.. nuclear powers blowing each other up over words and dirt.. Hitler.. Hiroshima.. Computers.. Blogs.. I seriously doubt that's what Pat had in mind when it split billions of years ago.. Then again, maybe literature, poetry, and diet soda make it all worth while..

probably not.

Drug Control
Mood:  mischievious
Topic: Conspiracies
Let's look at DARE for a second. "Drug Abuse Resistance Education".. In theory, we reduce the number of people who grow up using drugs by educating them as children. I love that concept, it sounds very noble. In reality, however, the numbers do not show that it has been effective.

Now let's look at the overall "drug message" that gets put out all over the US: "Don't do drugs. Good kids don't do drugs. Only bad kids do drugs."

Who is going to listen to this sort of message? "Good kids" (the kind who grow up not questioning authority or rocking the republican boat) will probably be swayed away from drugs and lead a normal productive drug free life. However, I see an ulterior motive here: "Bad kids" (the kind who will grow up trying to make change in the world) will be encouraged by this message to try drugs, most likely marijuana. What are the lifelong effects of marijuana? Lethargy and sedation.. Lifelong marijuana users tend to be less motivated.

Therefore: The drug message in the USA could easily have been designed to suppress people who would be likely to encourage change in the US Government. (think about it)

Steaming pile of...
What ever happened to the days when a person could just install a game on their computer and play it?

Half-Life 2 came out today, and I tried installing it.
It requires Valve's new content delivery system named Steam in order to run. Fine, I guess.. I have played Counter-Strike for a while so I am used to Steam. This however was a little different. Not only do you need Steam, but since I bought my copy in a store (instead of directly through steam) I need disc 1 in the drive to play!!! If I would have just bit the bullet and bought the blasted game online, I wouldn't need disc 1, but I guess this is my punishment for not trusting the wonderful Steam infrastructure (which, by the way, is swamped today and I can't even get through to make an account.)..
